The Graduate Program in Biotechnology (PPGBiotec) offers Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees.
The academic-administrative office of PPGBiotec is at the Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana (UEFS), but the program follows a multi-institutional model that involves UEFS, FIOCRUZ's unit in Bahia, CPqGM and the following partner institutions whose professors participate in teaching courses and/or supervising students at PPGBiotec: EMBRAPA, UFBA, UFMG, UNIVASF, UESB, UESC.
The goal of the Graduate Program in Biotechnology is to provide students with an advanced education so they can become university professors, active researchers, and entrepreneurs in the field of biotechnology.
In other words, our mission is to train human resources to work in Biotechnology, generate and disseminate scientific and technological knowledge, promote the creation of new products/processes aimed at improving social and economic regions and the population of the surroundings where it is located.
We have only one area of concentration, which is Biotechnology, with an emphasis on natural resources in the Northeast region, which, in turn, is divided into three interrelated sub-areas: Biotechnology of Microorganisms; Biotechnology in Health and Plant Biotechnology.
Our four lines of research are:
- Biological activities of natural, recombinant and synthetic products;
- Immunopathology and immuno-intervention;
- Characterization, conservation and sustainable management of biological resources with biotechnological potential; and
- Structural and functional analysis of macromolecules from microorganisms, animals and plants.
