1. Biological activities of natural, recombinant and synthetic products |
Screening
and study of compounds of microorganisms, animals, and plants (native
or cultivated) from Northeastern Brazil that present biological
activity with biotechnological applications in the natural or
genetically/synthetically modified form for the agriculture, industry,
public health and environment.
|
|
2. Immunopathology and immuno-intervention |
Study
of the pathogenesis, immunomodulation, and autoimmune components
against antigens of parasites that cause diseases in tropical zones.
Identification of the genetic factors that determine these diseases and
investigation of the role of citocines and soluble mediators in their
pathogenesis.
|
|
3. Characterization, conservation and sustainable management of biological resources with biotechnological potential |
Identification,
characterization, conservation and sustainable management of
microorganisms, animals and plants (native or cultivated) from
Northeastern Brazil that present current or potential biotechnological
use, in their natural or genetically modified form, for agriculture,
industry, public health and environment.
|
|
4. Structural and functional analysis of macromolecules of microorganisms, plants and animals with biotechnological potential. |
Identification
and structural/functional characterization, by molecular modelling and
isolation, purification, and biochemical characterization, of genes,
proteins, carbohidrates and lipids of microorganisms, animals, and
plants (native or cultivated) from Northeastern Brazil, especially
those from the semi-arid region, with biotechnological potential for
agriculture, industry, public health and environment.
